No. 41 (City of Porirua) Squadron ATC
No. 41 (Kapi-Mana) Squadron was formed in 1980 in Porirua. We have been providing the Air Training Corps experience to the youth of Porirua and Tawa since then. On the 28th of May 2005, the Squadron was officially renamed No. 41 (City of Porirua) Squadron, in honor of being granted Freedom of the City by the Porirua City Council.
We meet at our unit headquarters at TS Taupo, Ngatitoa Domain on Monday nights during the school term between 6.30 pm and 9.15 pm. There are also weekend activities and courses during the school holidays.
You can join if you are aged between 13 (or in year 9 at school) and 15. Cadets can stay on until they reach the age of 20.
Officers and Support Staff
The Unit is run by a team of NZCF officers and support staff who are unpaid volunteers from the local community, commissioned under the Defence Act into the Air Training Corps by the Minister of Defence.
All officers and support staff undergo the required police checks. Officers undergo a commissioning course which focuses on duty of care and risk management. Further courses include Instructional Technique and Training Management, Fieldcraft, Shooting Coaches, Range Conducting Officer and Command.
