LAC Hurnen reports on a recent helicopter flight:
On the 14th of June 2014, me and many other members of the Squadron made our way up to Palmerston North for a helicopter flight with HeliPro, and like many others this was my first flight.
Once we were at the HeliPro building we picked what order we would fly in and I was the first to fly in one of the two helicopters running at the time. Once I had got into the helicopter and the instructor had done his pre-flight checks, he tried to start the helicopter but it would not start so he tried again, and again, and finally after a couple more false starts we got it going. Although I don’t think any first time flyer would feel safe when, first the helicopter won’t start and second, the instructor notes that, “this has never happened before”. The flight was lots of fun, we flew very low over the river. Hovering was a challenge for all of us, and is a skill I hope to develop in the future.
