LAC Ngaro reports on the April 2014 JNCO Course:
The first week of the school holidays, 19th-25th of April, I (LAC Ngaro) attended the NZCF JNCO COURSE 15/14 held at RNZAF Base Ohakea, along with LAC Brooker and another 30-40 cadets from the Central Area.
Hours after our arrival we were split into 4 syndicates. I was one of the 10 people who were part of the most responsible syndicate, we named ourselves “#gummyninnjahchickeneatingcookies” but after an inspirational speech about noodles from a team member we renamed ourselves “#gummyninnjahchickeneatingnoodles” – we were syndicate #1. Throughout the course everyone stayed with their syndicate and became really close friends.
We were provided with hours of free time to iron our uniform, write our speeches and talk to everyone but everyone decided to add people on Facebook and take selfies for memories. Besides those privileges we watched the movie “pacific rim” and went to Hotshots to buy food and supplies.
We had lessons on the standards required of a JNCO. We also did activities which we practiced with our syndicate then were all tested on our qualities and skills for squad handling, instructing lessons, oral presentations and leadership skills. At first everyone was scared but as the days went past we all began to gain confidence and helped each other out if there was anything we didn’t understand.
On the last day of the course we did an ANZAC parade with RNZAF officers, police officers and other officials. Everyone did a great job standing still and didn’t faint.
Being given the opportunity to do this was great. I was glad because this was an awesome experience.
