JNCO Course – October 2012

Congratulations to LAC Benjamin Eagle who completed the October 2012 JNCO Course and was awarded “Top of Syndicate”.

He reports:

In the first week of the September – October school holidays I attended the 52/12 Junior Leaders Course at RNZAF Base Ohakea. The course involves a week of leadership training, drill instruction and oral presentation.

You spend the week living in army-style barracks, in the same room as every other cadet on the course. Things can get pretty smelly! All of your spare time in the evenings is spent either cleaning, ironing or studying and preparing for the next day, so you don’t get much down time.

Although I have made it sound like a week of torture and no sleep, it is actually a really fun experience. You make very good friends with everyone else on the course, and get to know everybody really well. The thing I like most about ATC is the camps and courses that are on offer. The courses are fully funded by the Defence Force so it was cheaper for me to spend a week at Ohakea than it would have been to stay at home! I worked really hard throughout the course, and managed to get top of Syndicate B, and I was very close to top of course.
