Cadet Daniel Shannon’s report on his first flight

On the 28th July 2012, several Cadets turned up to Helipro in Paraparaumu for flying. For many of us it was our first flight. We all waited in the carpark watching planes take off and land and before we knew it we were being called in for a briefing. We learnt about the aircraft we were flying (Cessna C-152), how to speed up and slow down using the throttle and how to taxi around the airfield.

We then went for our flights – there were three planes taking the Cadets. First of all my flying instructor told me to check the aircraft – flaps, bolts, fuel etc. We got in the aircraft and I started it up, I then got to taxi around the airfield. Then we took off and it was very fast, we got up to about 1,000 feet in the air, and I was able to take the controls and do some turns and see some cool sites. We flew over Kapiti Island which was amazing.

It was a very fun day and I cannot wait until the next flight. Many thanks to Helipro and the Unit Officers.
